A proposal · CGHM Associates · Downers Grove
We rebuilt your
website. Here it is.
Nobody asked us to. I was standing on the sideline at Doerhoefer Park watching my son's football practice, pulled out my phone, and searched Google for a barber here in Downers Grove. You came up twenty-second. Not the first page. Not the second. A few of the shops above you had paid to be there; most hadn't.
Your window sign is better than anything on your website, and you're beating almost nobody in a search that ought to be yours. So we built the site we thought that sign deserved — it's the one you're standing on right now. No invoice attached, no follow-up campaign.
For what it's worth, we're neighbours: our office is up at 6912 Main Street, about a mile and a half south of your chair.
Where things stand
Honest notes,
no insults.
Your shop has been on Main Street since 2008 and holds 4.6 stars over 140-odd reviews. Your website mentions neither. That's the whole thing in one sentence.
The site today
- ✗You're the twenty-second result on Google for a barber search in your own town. Most of the shops ahead of you didn't pay to be there — they just have more for Google to read.
- ✗Your page title is cut off mid-word. Google, browser tabs and every shared link read "HOME | Main Street Barbersh".
- ✗There's no description tag, so search engines write their own sentence underneath your name.
- ✗The data Google reads is a single line saying you're a website. No address, hours, phone or services.
- ✗The "Book Online" page on your own site says "Nothing to book right now. Check back soon."
- ✗No services listed anywhere on the site — you only see them after you start a booking.
- ✗Booking opens on a sign-in wall: "Enter your information to sign in", with no guest option. Every customer has to make an account before they can pick a time.
- ✗No email address anywhere — phone only. The only one in the site's code is info@mysite.com, the Wix template's placeholder, never replaced.
- ✗"Est. 2008" and "Walk-Ins Welcome" are painted on your window, and appear nowhere online.
- ✗About ninety words on one page. That's very little for Google to work with.
The site you're on
- ✓Everything Google looks at when it decides who to show first: a real page of content, complete business data, fast loading, and the words people actually search for.
- ✓A title that fits, and a description you'd actually want under your name.
- ✓Full business data for Google: every day's hours, address, phone, services, map coordinates, booking link.
- ✓All eight services on the page with their real chair times — men's, kids', women's, beard, face and head shaves, eyebrow wax.
- ✓"Walk-ins welcome" and "Est. 2008" front and centre — where they've belonged since 2008.
- ✓Your rating shown up top, where it changes minds.
- ✓A live "open now / opens at 9" readout, correct for each day's different hours.
- ✓Built around your window sign — the design came from your storefront, not a template.
- ✓Your Resurva booking untouched. Same link, same calendar, same everything.
What we built
Finished, not a mock-up.
Everything on the site is real and running. Click anything.
Found by neighbours
Written for "barber Downers Grove", "walk-in barber near me", "hot towel shave", and the towns around you — Westmont, Lisle, Woodridge, Lombard.
Booking, untouched
Every button opens your existing Resurva calendar. Nothing migrated, nothing to re-learn, no risk to the schedule you already run.
Fast on a phone
Hand-written code, compressed images, no page-builder weight. Loads in well under a second — which is both a ranking factor and a patience factor.
Your sign, as the design
The red oval, the gold, the black outlines and the script all come off your own window. It looks like your shop because it is your shop.
Readable by everyone
Real contrast, keyboard navigation, sensible headings, alt text. Works for the dad with a stroller and for his father.
Yours to keep
Plain HTML on your own domain. No builder holding it hostage, no export fee, nothing locked.
Two things still need you, and they're quick: your prices (they're posted in the shop but nowhere online), and your barbers' names if you'd like them on the site. Send them over and we'll add them at no charge.
What it costs
Two ways to do this.
The build is done, so there's no discovery phase to bill for. Both options include moving mainstreet-barbershop.com across — that's the fiddly part and it's on us.
Site & care
Two haircuts, near enough. No setup fee, no contract, cancel any time. First payment when you say go.
- ✓This site, launched on mainstreet-barbershop.com
- ✓Hosting, security certificate, backups, uptime monitoring
- ✓Unlimited changes — prices, hours, a holiday closure, a barber joining or leaving. Text it to us, it's done that day.
- ✓Your Google listing kept in step with the site
- ✓You can stop paying Wix, so the real difference is closer to $50 a month
Or buy it outright
Paid once, and the site is yours — files, code, everything.
- ✓The site exactly as it stands here
- ✓All the work of moving your domain onto it
- ✓We set up hosting free on Cloudflare and hand you the keys
- ✓No monthly anything. Later changes billed as they come.
About Wix, specifically
1Every website has to live somewhere
That's what the Wix bill is for. A plan with a connected domain generally runs $15–$30 a month depending on when you signed up and whether you were moved onto their newer pricing. The renewal line on your invoice is the number worth comparing against.
2Wix can't host this particular site
Not a knock — it's how Wix works. It serves pages built in the Wix editor and there's no way to upload an outside site to it. So this one lives elsewhere: with us on the monthly plan, or free on Cloudflare in your name if you buy it outright.
3While we're at it — the empty booking page
Wix Bookings is switched on in your site but has no services in it, which is why /book-online says "Nothing to book right now." Your real bookings go through Resurva. We simply point everything at Resurva and retire the dead page, so nobody hits a dead end.
4Your domain stays yours
If mainstreet-barbershop.com is registered through Wix, we either move the registration to a registrar in your name or leave it there and just repoint it. Your call. We never hold a client's domain.
Optional — the booking system
Worth a conversation
We left your Resurva booking exactly where it is — we don't touch a working calendar without being asked. But we went through it as a customer would, and two things stood out.
- 1It opens on a sign-in wall — "Enter your information to sign in" — with no guest option. A man who wants a haircut on Thursday has to create an account with a password first. Some will. Some will just call the next shop.
- 2It lives on resurva.com rather than your website, and shows no prices — only how long each service takes.
If you'd like, we can build you your own instead. Name, phone, pick a barber, pick a time, done — no account, no password. Then it does whatever you want it to do:
- ✓Texts you the moment somebody books, and texts them a reminder the day before
- ✓Emails a confirmation, if you'd rather have it in writing
- ✓A private page on your own site where you see the day's list, block off a Tuesday, or drop in a walk-in — no separate app to learn
- ✓A calendar per barber, so nobody double-books a chair
- ✓Your services, your times, and prices too if you want them shown
- ✓Nothing that discourages walk-ins — the sign in the window still rules
It runs on your site, under your name. And whatever Resurva costs each month, that stops too.
Mention it on the form below and we'll talk it through. It isn't part of either price above, and the site works perfectly well pointing at Resurva if you'd rather leave things alone.
One thing that isn't on the invoice
Put Ben's haircuts on the house.
A cheeky ask, and a no costs you nothing. If we end up working together, my son Ben Teeter gets his cuts free. Walk-ins welcome, after all.
It isn't a condition of anything, it won't appear on a receipt, and there's no paperwork. If it's awkward for any reason, skip it and we'll never mention it again.
If you want it
How to keep this site.
Three things happen, in this order, and most of the week is us working rather than you.
Say yes below
Pick a plan and leave a name and a number. That's the commitment — no contract to sign today, and nothing is charged from this page unless you choose the card button.
We invoice you, or you pay by card
Same day, whichever you prefer. The one thing we need back is access to your domain settings — explained below, and smaller than it sounds.
We point the domain and this page disappears
mainstreet-barbershop.com starts serving the new site, and the "Proposal" link comes out of the menu with it. Your customers never see any of this. Your Wix site stays untouched until you've watched the new one working.
The one thing we need
AAccess to your domain settings
mainstreet-barbershop.com is registered somewhere — Wix, GoDaddy, somewhere. We need to change where it points. Add us as a user on that account, or sit with us for ten minutes and do it together. Whichever you prefer.
BYou keep owning it, always
The domain stays in your name. We never transfer it and we don't hold it. If we part ways, you change one password and everything is still yours.
CNothing goes dark
Your Wix site keeps running until the new one is live and you've said it looks right. Phone, booking, Facebook — unaffected at every step.
DYour prices, when you have a minute
They're on the wall in the shop but nowhere online, and people do decide on price. Read them down the phone to us and we'll put them up.
Questions
Fair ones.
Do we lose our booking system?
No. Every "Book" button on this site opens the same Resurva calendar you use today — your appointments, your barbers' availability, your reminders, untouched. We'd never put your schedule at risk to win a website job.
Does this proposal page stay on our website?
No. It only exists at mainstreetbarbershop.cghmassociates.com — our address, not yours — so nobody has stumbled onto it. The moment we launch, the "Proposal" link comes out of the menu and this page comes down. Your customers see the barbershop and nothing else.
What happens to our Wix site?
It stays exactly where it is until you say go. When we switch the domain over, the old site is still sitting in your Wix account — nothing is deleted. Once you're happy with the new one, cancel the Wix subscription and stop paying for it. We'll tell you when that's safe, and not a day before.
Do I have to pay from this page?
No — but you can. There's a card checkout on both options if you'd rather just get it done; it's Stripe, the same processor behind most of your online purchases, and we never see your card number. Otherwise pick a plan, hit "Send it", and we'll email an invoice you can pay by card or check.
What does the $69 a month actually cover?
Hosting, the security certificate, backups, uptime monitoring, and any change you want made — prices, hours, a new barber, a photo swapped out. Text it to us and it's done that day. Set against the $15–$30 you're already sending Wix for hosting alone, the working difference is about fifty dollars.
Do we have to replace our booking system?
Absolutely not, and we'd never do it without you asking. Every button on the new site points at your Resurva calendar exactly as it does today. The custom booking system is a separate, optional job — we mention it only because we tried to book a haircut ourselves and hit a sign-up wall before we could pick a time.
Where did the photos come from?
Both are yours: the window shot from your website, and the interior shot from your own Resurva booking page. The design is built around that painted sign. If you have more — barbers at work, a busy Saturday — send them and we'll put them in for nothing.
Will this actually move us up Google?
Partly, and honestly: a website is one of three things Google weighs for a local search. The other two are your Google Business Profile and your reviews — and your reviews are already good. What's missing is a site with enough substance to rank and a listing that matches it. Fixing both is the fastest lever you have. We'll set up the tracking so you can watch the position yourself rather than take our word for it, and we're happy to be judged on it.
Why would you build it before we asked?
Because showing beats telling. If you say no, you've lost nothing and we've lost a Saturday. No hard feelings, no follow-up campaign.
Who is CGHM Associates?
A small software and marketing shop run by Jonathan Teeter — a working engineer since 1998 — with an office at 6912 Main Street, Suite 110, a mile and a half down the road from you. We build custom software, websites and AI tools for small and mid-sized businesses. You'd be working with the person who built this page, not an account manager.
Say the word.
If it's a no, we'll leave this page up for a month in case you change your mind, then take it down. If it's a yes, you're live next week and this page comes off with the switch.
